Even Fail (Promotional Video – Take 1)

An old man made a promotional video with the help of Canva & Clipchamp and their AI tools, then attempted to upload to some social media platforms with varying success. Didn’t know Reelz & TikTok needed to be portrait (16:9).

Live and learn πŸ™‚

It’s out there on my YouTube channel, FaceBook Reelz, Instagram Stories, and TikTok.

Here’s the promotional video in landscape…

Leave ’em Wanting More

David Husted and I started creating music together somewhere towards the end of our college days. While we are both members of The Get-Up, our side projects as a duo have always been brewed with a certain magic.

—————————————————————————-

It was with great anticipation that I journeyed to his home studio this past Friday to renew that collaboration and wake those spirits.

The resulting track will be our first “official” co-release. Now in mixing and mastering, it has us singing and playing a song that uniquely represents our shared musical impulses.

We present now a snippet, a teaser if you will, of “Even Fail“:

The 16-Second Revolution

In a move that is destined to upend the home recording industry, and possibly save music itself, I have recorded 16 seconds of purity using only voice and a few well-chosen percussive devices.

While some may argue that this piece will only further divide an already suspect industry, the forward thinking will come to full realization.

Choose your favorite player and put this one on repeat to reach a higher plane.

I Got Year-Ended

Why this: I was listening to a podcast where the interviewee said he liked funk because there was something a little wrong about it – that plus I was also inspired by a comment in the MyFive music discussion where a certain participant described Matthew Sweet’s “Divine Intervention” as a hot mess – albeit sexy.

Decided to have a little fun in the studio and say my goodbye to 2020.

Just in time for your New Year’s Eve virtual parties – I give you “2020 – Year Ended”

Dangerful Reentry

I’ve picked up a Schwartz-reconditioned guitar and dug back into Dangerous.

The demo I previously created is very clunky. I had to get back in and rearrange the lyrics as I had never updated my document with the changes I made with the demo version – poor configuration management πŸ™‚

Trying to figure out how I am going to try to sing it was this morning’s mission.

Here is a snippet of the reentry:

Back in the Addle

I’ll dive right back in after ages of not posting here. Even though I haven’t been working on making music very much of late, it remains a major portion of my consciousness (or something like that).

In addition to moderating a music discussion, MyFive, amongst a small group of friends, I have begun curating a weekly Spotify playlist, Spotified from Pandora, consisting of tracks that “caught my ear” during the week while listening to my obsessively seeded Pandora mix (updated every Monday):

Archived playlists here:
Spotified from Pandora page with archived lists

I also played a little acoustic guitar a few weeks back developing a new little riff and chord progression which I may couple with a middle of the night burst of lyrics for a song with the working title “Inherit the Windfall.” They need to be edited down to an actual song, but I included said burst below.

Be safe and well.

Inherit the Windfall (initial lyric ideas)

Dear leader,
Can I still criticize you?
Or will they come for me?
Or take away my air breath
In my time of need

Or maybe you’ll shoot me
In the middle of the street
Some will cheer

Sell my blood
Take stock

Will you only provide
To bended knees?

I’m no expert
I’m nobody
I’m you
I have a voice
I’m failing
Not winning

I’m not trying to be clever
I’m not trying to be brave
Maybe I am

Nice? Nasty?

The rain, the rainfall

Give, give, give

There’s never any evidence

Some have said

It would be a joke
If it wasn’t terrorizing/terrifying
Surreal, so real

No real aptitude for business
Ill gains spread virally

Friends in high places
Trickle on/down

It’s always a con
Mark my words

Shower you with kindness as the rain falls

Give blood
Suspend belief

What more do you want?
What will it take?
As you lay me down
Put me In to my grave
What will be said

What is (in) my power

Helper, healer
Hidden
Sequestered
Afraid of
empowered

Whites only
Unless you have a token
Then let’s do lunch
I’ll eat yours
