This Is My Song – A “My Five” Reboot
[Go to the Songs >>]
I’m stealing the title from an early Scorpions song, This Is My Song – youtube link below, for a new music discussion born of proposals to do a new round of My Five. I believe it was Paul Krempasky who suggested doing songs instead of whole records as the original two iterations required – the 2nd of which was never completed.
In addition to Paul, Jim Chiarello has been involved in the initial discussions regarding the reboot. The plan is for the “board” to release a category for which each “subsciber” would submit 5 songs. I will then release two songs per week for listening and informal commenting. I’m sure people will jump in and out along the journey, but I think we can have some fun with this format.
In the prior My Five iterations, I had peeps (marshmallow) send me their selections privately and kept selections anonymous until the end of the “round.” (See Gentle Giant’s “Design” from the Interview album:
“In the printed lyrics for Design is the line “Everything comes to those who wait” which is apparently not sung in the song; but if you listen to the next two lines, sung in rounds, when they have reached their densest overlaps, you can actually hear the line happen a word at a time across the different vocal lines, even though some the words from the first line don’t even occur in the next two lines. Amazing! (Thanks to Joe Dean.)“[Reference: http://www.blazemonger.com/GG/Cool_stuff_in_Gentle_Giant_songs]
