  1. Faith No More – War Pigs
Not real familiar with the FNM. My initial reaction was – What’s the point here? It’s not that different.
Second listen revealed a bit of a Chili Pepper swagger & swing. As Bill on occasion has said, “not essential” – certainly some nice guitar and bass work here though.

Husker Du – Love Is All Around
I kinda remember this existed, but it’s long enough ago that it was pretty fresh to my ears. A quick one that showcases HD’s pop sensibility with a lot on display on this short track. Great backing vocals, classic Mould guitar sound and Grant Hart’s always fine drumming. Short, sweet and fun.

  2. FNM – War Pigs is probably in my top 10 list of best songs ever, That being said I was a little nervous to listen to this. Overall the music was done well, not much changed from the original except the lead singers usual singing style. not bad

HD – Not familiar with either group or song. not a bad listen. quality seemed a little muddled.

  3. War Pigs- I liked the one song of theirs that I can remember (The line “You want it all but you can’t have it” / video with lots of rain / lead singer that remind me of Terry Gilliam). I’m familiar with the Black Sabbath version. This one was a faithful (ha!) reproduction from my perspective. I did like the tones which were cleaned up a bit–some of those late 80’s production values. Nothing too earth-shattering for me. I’m thinking if you like FNM and you like BS you will like this. If it came on the radio, I’d probably say, “Huh. Its that BS song but its not them. Huh.”

Husker Du- I love the Husker Du sound and love the sound of Bob Mould’s voice. They both have a shiny sheen (is that redundant, like two twins?) with a little grittiness underneath. I like it here applied to Love is all around. I don’t think I ever heard the original but REM did a version of this at their Unplugged performance. It was dainty. Like the song above, if you like Husker Du, you will probably like this.

    1. yes, that was the only version of the song i ever heard before this one. Surely Al knows it? Great show.

  4. “War Pigs”by Faith No More: This is a great air guitar song for sure. Powerful and, although I did not re-listen to the original, I suspect it is very similar with perhaps a stronger mix on the whole (more punch and fire). Something in it reminds me of Jimi Hendrix a bit. Enjoyed the ride. This would be best listened to in a small club with big sub woofers booming into your chest.:
“Love is All Around”by Husker Du: Short, gritty version that has a character all its own. I liked it very much and the lead vocalist sounded very familiar . I think my ears gravitated to his vocal tones

  5. FNM/”War Pigs”. Oh yeah. This is a rare classic track that I didnt think much of when I was in my 20s but love now. Great cover, even though I don’t like Patton’s voice as much as Ozzy’s. The guitars sound boss. i love the sound effects at the beginning, too.

  6. FNM. Very straight cover of the original. Nothing new here except a different singer and a different tune on the guitar. One of my favorites from my teenage years. I had considered submitting 5 covers of this song, but couldn’t find enough.

Husker Du – I like it, bright guitar sounds with muddy vocals, a good mix. Short and sweet too.

  7. FNM – Heard a bunch of covers of this song. Mostly straight reads like this. Solid, but not spectacular.

Husker Du – Makes sense the Minneapolis trio covers this track. Sounds like a bunch of Bob’s solo stuff after HD and a precursor to the power pop of Sugar.
