GH – you can definitely hear the Beatles in this song. There is a small hint of Eric Clapton. I can’t for the life of me think of the song title, its the guitar work. its right at the end of the moon chorus. Ahh,,, Bell Bottom Blues. That’s the one…
One of the few Beatles-related records I actually had on vinyl – I believe I rescued it from a bargain bin. (I also had Magical Mystery Tour and a 45 of Silly Love Songs.) I hear some Paul Simon here and a little McCartney in the production on the chorus. But mainly it is a strong Harrison track about the “little brother to the sun.”
A little Rocky Racoon taste in the verse maybe? [Yeah, I know that’s one of McCartney’s]
My favorite track on the album is the “breezy” Blow Away.
[Note: This is the second MyFive entry from this album – “Faster” was submitted for the sports round https://www.edbejzak.com/my-five-songs/round-18-the-sport-of-it-all/instant-threeplay/volume-18-3-3/%5D
“Here Comes the Moon”/G. Harrison. Cheeky to write a sequel to one of your own best tunes. With its echoey guitar arpeggio and BG vox that recall “Here Comes the Sun King”. But George was nothing if not cheeky. This one is appropriately ethereal and reflective. It’s tempting to try to hear everything in this as just a twist on “HCT Sun,” but would we like it even if we weren’t so intimately familiar with its progenitor? Yes, I think we would.
“Here Comes the Moon” by George Harrison: A rather pleasant if not a bit too Muzak for me at this particular moment. However, having said that. The guitar work grows on me and the chill mood does what it supposed to….delivers some peace.
