“Fantastic Planet of Love” by Marshall Crenshaw
Submitted by Alan

This is the song in which Marshall Crenshaw makes the case for the Nerdy Guitar God moniker. There is both fabulous rhythm and lead guitar takes in this one. The song has a great pulse and infectious rhythm. The live version is the one.

“3 Libras” by A Perfect Circle
Submitted by Ian

A spin-off from Tool, Maynard singing vocals. This is an album I can play over and over again and never get tired of it. This band is a perfect balance of everything.

“Sun Gone Down” by House of Freaks
Submitted by Ed

Having “Sun” in the title and lyrics may be the thinnest of reasons to put it in this round, but I love this track. It just “hits me” perfectly.

“(Now I Wanna Be a) Space Girl” by Fingerprints
Submitted by Dave

Garage band jam with some “fire”….dig that guitar riff in the middle.

“Right Wing Pigeons” by The Dead Milkmen
Submitted by Bill

I remember hearing about the small Georgia town Rodney references in verse 1, passing a law requiring all its citizens to be armed (if I recall correctly). Anyway, the 2nd Amendment wars, though well underway, were still kind of new in the 80s — so new that perhaps an alien incursion could seem the only valid way to explain them and similar phenomenon like presidents who hated school-lunch programs. (Now we just call them “Republicans.”) Pair this charmingly rudimentary punk-funk track with “Space Invaders,” by The Pretenders.
