“Our World is a Rock and Roll Band” by Lucifer’s Friend
Submitted by Ed

As I keep plugging in songs from the bands I followed as a teen, it was only a matter of time before an LF track was included. Their debut album (1970) was hard rock in the Zeppelin vein, but by the time 1974’s Banquet was released they were pretty much prog rock with some jazz and fusion mixed in. This track was apparently only included on some U.S. versions of the album (the band was German, but had a British lead singer). Loved the song back then and still do.

“The Guitar Song” by The Dead Milkmen
Submitted by Ian

Thought about Donovan Hurdy Gurdy man, another obvious choice so I dug a little deeper. I played the hell out of this song when it came out, let’s keep the Dead milkmen going in the my 5

“Guitar and Pen” by The Who
Submitted by Alan

It’s not one of the blockbusters on “Who Are You”, but I have always loved this one. It reminds me a bit of a “Who’s Next” tune with the keyboard meanderings as an intro and then diving into a more driving beat. It also has some breaks which make me think that Townsend may have had rock opera prospects for it. And if you’ve ever tried to write or create anything, these words ring true:
“When you sing through the verse and you end in a scream
And you swear and you curse ’cause the rhyming ain’t clean
But it suddenly comes after years of delay
You pick up your guitar, you can suddenly play
When your fingers are bleeding and the knuckles are white
Then you can be sure, you can open the door
Get off of the floor tonight
You have something to write.”

“The Gig” by Fantastic Cat
Submitted by Dave

Just love this song as a good solid fun song. I am sure there are 1,000’s of song that fit this description, however, this particular song has drifted across my field of view often lately for unknown reasons. At first glance, I assumed randomly but perhaps I am subconsciously seeking it out.

“Rimshot (intro)” by Erykah Badu
Submitted by Bill

From her fine album “Baduizm,” this sexy come-on with a saucy double entendre. I always enjoy her jazzy approach.
