  1. Lucifer’s Friend – Our World is a Rock and Roll Band
Love it! Big, bold, brassy and bouncy. Galloping bass and striking piano keep the fun going – love the cymbal work as well. Play full.

XTC – Funk Pop a Roll
Pretty bouncy as well. The last track on the Mummer album. Scathing takedown by an admittedly poisoned insider. Even after they stopped touring they could still rock pretty hard. Drumming is still solid after Terry Chamber’s departure – kudos to Pete Phipps!
Note: Didn’t remember there being a video. A weird bit of fun.

  2. “Our World is a Rock n Roll Band”/Lucifer’s Friend. Old-fashioned good-time rock ‘n’ roll as could only be played by a self-styled consort of the Dark One. The vocals and overall approach remind me a bit of Boston (the band). Very clean production and snappily arranged. Lyrics a bit on the overly familiar let’s-hear-it-for-our-fans side of things, but an enjoyable romp.

“Funk Pop A Roll”/XTC. In bitter regard of the music industry, but nonetheless quite bouncy, with a fat bass sound, and danceable in that angular New Wave way. Great dynamics and melding of the nervous beat and jangly guitar. “The music suffers but the music business thrives,” sang Paul Simon some years later. Yet this is an objectively fine track about the industry’s corrosive impacts. (Really love the video, too.)

  3. “Our World is a Rock and Roll Band” by Lucifer’s Friend:
This one is a mix of Elton John and Billy Joel vocally with a splash of Queen, Doobie Brothers and Chicago musically. Enjoyed the energy and horns.

“Funk Pop a Roll” by XTC: Big fan of this track. Very cool chord patterns and rhythms. Especially like bridge-ish section. The chords are odd to my ears for a pop song here.
