Never heard of fantastic cat, a little disappointed there were no fantastic cats in the video, not even a semi-tolerable cat. Some Texas flair, folk, indie, I’m not really sure. Seems like a lot of genres mixed together but it works.
Badu, I have heard of, not a lot but familiar with the name. This has some deep beats to it. The singing reminds me of Amy Winehouse. The song ended too soon, I needed a little more. Another album to put on the long list of music I need to get through
Fantastic Cat – The Gig
Simple, earnest pub rock – nothing wrong with that. A good listen.
Erykah Badu – Rimshot (Intro)
Only have heard a smattering of her work and maintain a generally favorable opinion of it – this one fit right in with my expectations. Workin’ that groove. Silky.
“The Gig”/Fantastic Cat. About as no-frills as it gets behind a somewhat defiant shaggy-dog road story. I feel like the acoustic rhythm guitar in a rock quartet is less common than it once was; it was nice to see/hear it here. The instrumental coda really brought it together somehow.
Fantastic Cat- Never heard of these blokes but love this tune. There is something about the singer’s delivery that remind me of Meatloaf(?) and there is also a Gin Blossoms quality to the music. Now I’m getting a little Knack overtones. I’ll buy their T-Shirt.
Badu- Gimme more songs that are less than 2 minutes! A little splash of groove and funk. She’s got a silky voice and that rim-shot is full and loud, a it would have to be. My only criticism is that there is a tad bit too much repetition for such a short song.
Groovy little ditty. Pritty, pritty good. I digi, digi
“The Gig” by Fantastic Cat
Interesting, I came across this song because I think it was a Derringer Discoveries (DD) Top 25 offering a year or so ago. Synchronicity must be kicking in because DD just featured this group in their latest podcast episode 61. What a cowinkydink:

Also highly recommend you check out Episode 58. The co-host was simply phenomenal.
