CB – what can you say, just an excellent song.
CB – It sounds like your typical all girl band straight out of the 90’s, and that’s not a bad thing being I was heavily into that at the time. Somehow Ciao Bella slipped under my radar. My 5 has actually had quite a few that I have missed.
The Chambers Brothers – Time Has Come Today
Didn’t know this one by name, but it is somewhat familiar. Sounds like other tracks from the era – maybe Animals? Of course Hendrix. Psychedelic, yes – I thought that they were early in the game at 1966, but that era started sooner than I had thought – The Animals “House of the Rising Sun” being released in ’64. Anyway, enjoyable even at 11+ minutes.
I see that they were in the Summer of Soul documentary – I still need to check that out.
Ciao Bella – Old School Digital Watch
A band that I thought only I knew of 🙂 Love this one. Has just enough crunch of guitar, but kinda lo-fi vocals. Reminds me of From Bubblegum to Sky – ah, Mario Hernandez was involved in both. Sha la la la. Mmmmm.
“Time Has Come Today”/Chambers Bros. For once, my prognosticative powers proved accurate — I held off including this one because I thought someone else might. I actually hadn’t heard it in a while. That intro, with its prophetic-sounding guitar flourishes, remains brilliant, and the slow-down middle part is boss. While the lead vocal verges on hammy at times, this is still a great bit of garage psychedelia. The Ramones do a cover.
“Old School Digital Watch”/Ciao Bella. In a latter-day power-poppish vein. The vocals have a curious airy quality. The burbling bass is especially appealing.
