EZN – Name sounds familiar although I believe I have never heard a song from them. Judging by the cover, I was thinking 80’s glam rock. Was surprised when it sounded more like 70’s pop. interesting.
REM – I had a phase where I was following along with REM, but it ended soon after 2 albums. Not that I dislike them, I think they got too popular and overplayed. Do enjoy hearing songs that may have not gotten as much play time as the others.
Enuff Z’Nuff – There Goes My Heart
Can’t judge a song by its album cover. This morning I was thinking of tracks where I simply had to rewind the tape to hear again – this one would have been in that category for sure. Pure pop bliss.
R.E.M. – I Believe
One of my favorite R.E.M. albums. They were firing on all cylinders. You could, mostly, understand Michael Stipe’s vocals at this point and they were tight as a musical unit. Nice banjo intro & accordion flavoring. Great work from the rhythm section. “I believe in… time as an abstract.”
“There Goes My Heart”/Enuff Z’Nuff. From the big opening chord, unapologetic power pop. I knew we were going to get some “countdown” songs in this round (ticking off the hours, etc) but this one goes the extra, er, hour by counting down the days in the first verse, the months in the second, and decades in the third! Fun stuff.
“I Believe”/REM. They were all like 26 at the time, so I guess that’s old enough to sing “when I was young.” From what perhaps will always be my fave REM album (maybe because it came out when I was 21), this spirited reflection on faith, hope and change. Forgot about the contemplative and unexpected accordion in the middle part. I nearly included this one myself but held off because I thought someone else might. Good call. Well, what DO you do between the horns of the day?
“There Goes My Heart” by Enuff Z’Nuff: I am reminded of the theme songs to Friends for some reason. Cool pop uplift to this one that just propels you along. Toes Tapping and mouth smiling.
“I Believe” by REM: Well…I love REM and this the type of song I lean in to. Great Track. Special shout out to the harmonies….I can’t help but sing-along with them
Enuff- This can’t be the right song. Hello?
Inwas expecting hair metal and here we have this Beatle-esque (think “Rain”) with a touch of Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne and maybe 20 other pop bands. The Woo Hoos takes.me back to World Party. Great song. They need a new manager, nee photographer and band name. Call me.
