  1. Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul – Forever
    All,
Totally Motown Soul feel. Love that cha-chink guitar that waits a bit to come in. Highlights the potential importance of bass guitar.
    Forever is a long time.
    Alan, Bill & Dave,
I think this is the feel I was looking for on Lonely Thread.

The Outsiders – Time Won’t Let Me
Well known. Am interested to give it a focused listen.
    He “can’t wait forever.”
What a classic riff. Again with the bass and love that (farfisa?) organ. Nice exaltation leading into the guitar solo. Good use of the various horns. Never gets old.

    Songs pair well.

  2. “Forever”/Little Steven & Disciples. Following on Ed’s comment, if you’d told me this was Motown cover, I’d have no reason to doubt you. He’s merely an adequate lead singer, but this has a classic feel, sounds like it’s always been there — and I see it was a minor hit, so I might well have heard it on MMR or whatever back in the day.

“Time Won’t Let Me”/The Outsiders. A relentless bass line drive this golden oldie, urged along by a percolating guitar riff and prods from the horn section. Another great sing-along chorus. I see they’re considered “garage rock,” but this sounds like blue-eyed soul to me. Just a well-crafted track.

  3. “Forever” by Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul: Feels very Bruce Springsteen. I wonder why? I am a bit flat this week so my ability to properly evaluate music is prob not at an optimum. The horn or horn-synth’s a bit too on point relentlessly. I liked but prob would pass if dialing through stations. I will try this one again next week when my stupor passes.

“Time Won’t Let Me” by The Outsiders: Those back-ups had some real gusto behind them at points…made me chuckle. Bopped along nicely…thumbs up and a snap
