A standout track on a great album – my favorite from Eels. I just think this song is beautiful.

“Ether Garden” by Henry Jamison

This singer came across my field of vision some years ago and I used one of his songs as a reference for one of my own song creations (Wild Overgrown Love off the album Your Corners Curve Like Lemonade). I find his music captivating and what appears simple quite complex. This song is no exception. The reverb wash, pads and effects all work to set the “yearning” atmosphere. Actually not sure what it’s about but I dig.

To explicate a yearning for something you already have but need more of. One of those songs that sounds like it must have already existed somewhere, but it’s an original. Delicate but deep.

“I Want You To Want Me” by Postmodern Jukebox

Full Disclosure: the first song I thought of for this round was Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” but I felt it was “too easy” so I scrapped it. But I love that song. Then I recalled this bluesy, sleep version and thought it might assauge my trepidation.

“I Need You” by America

America is a band that I feel doesn’t get much play except for Ventura Highway and tinman. This is a pretty decent song, and works for the theme.
