  1. BH – Nice soothing selection for a friday morning. very enjoyable.

TH- A ba[n]d where I knew the hits and the videos that were played on MTV. my neighbor apparently got a greatest hits CD and did not like it. Asked if I wanted it. gave it a listen an enjoyed it thoroughly. David Byrne is definitely an interesting guy.

  2. Ben Howard – Promise
I had no idea what to expect from this track. It’s a nice one. Great use of cello. Got enough of a build in there to keep it interesting. Pleasant vibe. My mind kept wandering when trying to focus on the lyrics – there’s an abundance of space.

Talking Heads – I Want to Live
Really spare, demo sounding. Neat to hear them at their base level. Hard to avoid concentrating on the bass (not necessarily a bad thing). Good stuff.

  3. “Promise”/Ben Howard. Don’t know this artist. A poignant track. That mysterious, subtle percussion at the beginning draws you in, like the sound on a movie that opens with a black screen. Also, love a guy with two first names.

“I Want to Live”/Talking Heads. Surprised by this track, which I didn’t know (I guess it’s only on that compilation?). Nice and raw, with that nervous energy and existential and social angst that so defined their early stuff, though Byrne’s vocals seem to me a bit less authoritative than on their best work from this period. “I had some friends but I want more.” Really forefronts the rhythm section. Wonder why this went unreleased?

  4. “I Want to Live” by Talking Heads: Has a demo vibe including his melodic mumble singing in one of the verses. His voice is all his own and Talking Head fans have come to love it even in demo form. Cool to listen to this and would be interesting to hear studiofied version of it to compare against.
