“Cause = Time”/Broken Social Scene. Good stuff from another of those bands that I missed out on first time ’round. Reminds me quite a bit of Sonic Youth, from the too-cool, to-the-edge-of-disaffection spoke/sung vocals to the dissonant guitar stylings over a to-the-point beat. The lyrics are rather opaque; I have no idea what this song is actually about. Just ’cause?
“In A Second”/Yachts. A synth-inflected, New Wavy but duly punchy byway of power pop. Love the off-kilter guitar riff. “Another aspect of yourself no longer needs concealing.” Interesting.
Broken Social Scene – Cause = Time
I remember this from the second iteration of the album version of MyFive. Has that Feelies low-fi sound with a bit of Sonic Youth style noise added. Clicks along like a ticking clock. I knida frift along with this one. Will need to ponder the lyrics at another time – just ‘cause.
Yachts – In a Second
I’m getting a bit of The Jam from this one – maybe early Joe Jackson – must be that up-front, insistent bass. Maybe Echo & the Bunnymen as well. Yachts rock!
Love it. Warm and round sound mix-wise…I am reminded of Echo and Bunnymen for some reason and not sure why. Enjoyed all the little accoutrements and stereo field work layered throughout the song. Excellent ride…will be returning for more
Broken Social Yacht:
Both of these songs have a similar vibe and beat to them. I have never heard of either group. They pair really nice together.
