Paul McCartney – Another Day
Steely Dan’s Doctor Wu was playing this morning and I was kinda hearing that Another Day might fit in with it and other “jazzy” 70s tracks (e.g. Year of the Cat). Let’s Listen…
It may be missing the sax, but it is a jazzy little number. Kinda reminds me of Stealers Wheel’s Stuck in the Middle with You – and a BeetLees track or two – I’ll say Ob La Di, Ob La Da.
It’s got that bounciness that I love about McCartney’s lighter-hearted fare – I think I started with the compilation All the Best which certainly scratched that itch – don’t get me started on Silly Love Songs. I have since ventured deeper into PM’s catalog and find Ram to be a standout. So many tasty pieces in this-here day in the life – not without sadness.
“Another Day”/Paul McCartney. Lots going on in here, almost a kind of mini-opera, with the basic (if multi-part) acoustic track augmented by discrete doses of hand percussion, slide guitar and even 3 seconds of party noises. Blissfully tuneful, natch. Lyrically, a nice attempt to sketch the sadnesses that lie just beneath the surface of the routine.
“Another Day” by Paul McCartney: Another day of Paul working his chores on the farm. I would have sworn this was a Beatle song. It sounds so Beatlesque. Love it. Nostalgic waves gushing over me. The routine can walk that line between misery and a subtle form of gladness. Although she feels so sad it made me feel rather happy.
Ah, a PM classic. very familiar with this song. to be honest, not sure if I thought this was a beatles song or a solo.
